Do not read if you are a horse lover...

Seriously, this is an article on the last horse slaughterhouse that is ordered to close. 3/4 of the way down is the number per week and I was not too surprised but definitely nauseated. The horse industry, both racing and showing, is pretty on the surface but completely rotten underneath.

Deep thoughts for Friday...

This is an interesting article that makes you think...

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,287211,00.html

I'll preface this by saying: I am aware in talking with friends, acquaintances, and a therapist that I'm unusual in the way I feel about boyfriends. Detailed Explaniation below main subject for those not interested...

Anyway, back on subject...
This article mentions "marriage partner" and that "true love" or lust may not be the best marriage partner. I totally disagree about this statement. Now if "true love" or lust is basically just an intense crush...then yes, it's not the basis for a life together. However, if it is "true love" then I believe that is the best basis. True love, to me, means that you love and are willing to be with this person knowing their flaws and even if you can't stand these flaws, still liking the person overall and get a basic enjoyment from being with them. A marriage partner suggests you want the same things from life and are compatible. Even if love grows I don't think it will be as with-standing as "true love".

For Me: I either really like someone and have great chemistry from the get-go, or I don't! There is no in between. I've never really liked someone and then said after 2 months of dating, decide I don't really like them anymore. And I've never dated anyone and had chemistry appear later, NEVER. I've learned after a few trials that if there is no spark in the first date, there never will be. Even half a spark doesn't cut it! I'm the type that if there is chemistry, I'm set to go long-term with the person. I think it's a basic chemical thing really. They have proven it in insects and rats that pheramones are responsible for picking one mate over another. And as I'm finding out, my Central Nervous System is very sensitive and reactive to drugs, food, and environment so it actually makes very good sense that I'm more suseptible to pheramones. Now this doesn't really make me too happy because it does make it harder to date....However I'm a loyal partner for life due to this... Not to say that it is unbreakable either. There is a point when the pheramone link is broken due to years of stress over serious problems in a partner.

Now for the people who are the reverse of me, this article may be true. And be the best course of action. So, for all the people reading, which type are you?? : )

Shelving

Yeah, I have finally come to some decisions regarding decorating. I'm getting the IKEA Stolmen shelving (White) for the living room (behind the couch) and for the dinette area. I think the metal and open look will go really well with my favorite shelves that I still plan on getting but aren't as much a priority as storage shelving ; ( Picking up some from craigslist tonight!

I also found a great screen at IKEA to conceal the fridge from the front door view. (It's just an unattractive sight from the front door.) And it's inexpensive.

Goat Goat Goat Goat

Chigo will be so proud....

I ate an Indian Goat meat dish Sunday at Darbar in the Tendernobb. It was very good and the meat did not have a very strong flavor. The dish was very spicy and hot... It sort of had a lamby like taste so I'm not entirely positive they didn't substitute lamb...

Senic places this weekend

Catered a wedding in HOT DRY Napa Valley this weekend. It was pretty driving from Napa to St Helena. SF to Napa was not so pretty. Although I cannot understand WHY people would want to go somewhere so dry and hot and drink alcohol which dries you out even more...

Sick

I have a sinus thing going on right now. I feel awful but am not to the point where a Doc will give me antibiotics yet : ( So I will either get better or sicker in a few days, whahoo. I do have to cater tomorrow in Napa which I'm looking forward to. I have not been up to Napa Valley yet. I just hope I survive... And it turns out that Sudafed has the same chemical in it as Ritalin. Which would explain why my motion sickness would go away with Sudafed... (they aren't the same drug, they have different chemical combinations, both happen to have one chemical in common)

Cat VS Printer

For all you Printer Folk...

Filipino Independence Day Festival

Sunday I went Filipino Independence Day Festival, Civic Center Plaza, SF. It appeared to be pretty popular and the crowd really liked the entertainment. Unfortunately it was not in English...

I did have some interesting food. I did not think to take pic of the food which I regret now : ( Anyway, I had Lechon which is roasted pig. I really liked the Karioka, recipe in link, for a chewy fried dessert. Ube ice cream was very good, light in flavor like red bean ice cream. Halo-Halo was a fun mix of Ube ice cream, milk, & fruit/veggies: banana, coconut, tropical fruit, corn, red & white beans...different but good : ) And some sort of noodle with pork and maybe fish sauce? It was okay after you get over the strong taste in the first few bites. I didn't have much for fear of shrimp allergy.

Accidental Experiment

On Sunday I conducted an experiment on accident with my Ritalin. I was up early, after a not-too-late evening of catering, Sunday morning to make a phone call. I tried and couldn't fall asleep after then had to rush to get over to the East bay. I didn't realize I hadn't taken my Ritalin then I wanted to take it with some food so I didn't take my first dose until 1:30 pm Sunday. For the last several weeks I have been taking 5mg at 10am and 4pm.

In the morning I didn't really notice any effects from not taking the Ritalin. Once I took it I felt energized like usual. Once I fought the traffic back from the East Bay (which is horrible on the weekends) my friend and I went the the Filipino Independence day festival. Then for a dog hike at Fort Funston. At the end of the hike I was feeling unwell. I was slightly nauseous, my head hurt, all the muscles around my eyes ached, and I was sooooo tired. I realized that my Ritalin had worn off. Just by not taking my Ritalin during the morning wore me out, from not focusing, so that I felt horrible once it wore off in the evening. When I take my Ritalin at 10am & 4pm I come off it around 9-10pm but I don't have any of these side effects. So I'm fairly certain it's not a physical dependence issue.

It's funny , I haven't had the tiredness, vision issues, eye muscle fatigue, and claustrophobia (motion sickness inside) for 2+ months now and I sort of forgot how horrible it really is! Another interesting thing is the Provigil, genius drug, seems to bring on these symptoms so I need a little more Ritalin on the days I take the Provigil. Seems a little odd and I'll mention to the ADD Psychiatrist next time. The Provigil is working though and I feel like I can think/learn like I used to be able to.

Last weekend's outdoor activities

The tide was very high this past weekend and there must have been a lot of fish in close to the shore. I saw many fisherman on the beach off Fort Funston and there was a large boat right off shore that I'm guessing was a fishing boat. And it was a beautiful sunset.

On Monday evening we went hiking on Pine Mountain Summit (another dog hike from "100 Best Dog Hikes of Northern CA"). The other side of road was the Alpine Lake trail, I believe, and it had lots and lots of deer. We'll do that hike soon!!

Amazing Natural Wonders

From the BBC again:

South China Karst The diversity of South China's karst features - a unique landscape formed by water eroding limestone and marble rocks - are said to be unrivalled.
The karst towers of Libo are described as being among the finest examples of this kind of formation.

Jeju Volcanic Island Situated off the southern shores of South Korea, the island also features a network of lava tubes.
The IUCN describes the system as the "most impressive and significant series of protected lava tube caves in the world".

Indonesia's Tsunami orphans BBC

From the BBC:

Organizing madness

I just love the book "10 Simple Solutions for Adult ADD" it has so many great organizing tips.

This past weekend I started organizing all my important paperwork. I've had a file cabinet in the past yet it never seemed to help much and I still lost many things. This book mentioned that some people didn't fare well with file cabinets (ME) and suggested using 3 ring binders instead. I thought about this for a couple of weeks and decided that this way might really make a difference for me.

So Saturday evening after catering all day I watched my netflicks TV show DVD while punching holes in 1/2 of all my paperwork. (I have a big Rubbermaid tub full of papers I *should* keep) I made a list of most of the categories the paperwork falls in and Sunday bought many purple binders from Target. I really wanted hot pink but purple was the closest they had. Maybe I should check staples... Anyway, I was going to finish last night but the weather was so nice I decided to hike with the dogs instead. Hopefully tonight I'll have some time to finish! And if anyone has a lead on pink binders....let me know = )

Done At Last...

.

.. With the furniture layout!

I *think* I finally have a furniture layout I really like for my studio. It decreases the floor space slightly but the furniture setup makes it seem more like a living room then one big bedroom. The change does mean I have to make new decisions on which wall to paint and a few more accents to complete the look.

View from the front door. TV will go where the table/orchids are on the right. (Once I get my new BIG flatscreen TV!) The bed is to the left, somewhat out of sight from the door!

Laser Hair Removal

Now that I'm getting booked for numerous catering gigs : ) I'm considering Laser Hair Removal. The people I know personally that have done this just RAVE about it and say it's definitely worth the money....if you go to a good place, of course. I'm planning on having just my underarms & bikini area done. It's not the time shaving that really bothers me but the irritation in these areas due to sports clothing rubbing and razor bumps.

New Hope

Today I took my first dose of Provigil the "genius drug"
In studies, this drug has been shown to step up brain power when presented with a challenge. Stimulants slow down the brain which usually causes increased focusing power. This drug is sometimes used off-label for ADD patients usually in combination with some other Add drug.

I specifically requested it over Strattera due to it's boosting brain power. For the last couple of years when ever I face an intellectual challenge my brain just "turns off". Even things I've been previously interested or things I know I would be interested in. It's very frustrating. I thought once I changed some things and encountered new challenges I would be able to focus on the interesting challenges again. However that has not been the case.

Today I experienced some new hope after taking 50mg of Provigil (1/4 regular dose). I was able to sit down and think about work. It felt like I was my old self again! I've read reviews on this drug and it's not necessarily consistent and there are no studies on long-term usage. I'm hoping it will jump start my brain and that I will be able to go off it and retain the benefits. We'll see....

Pet Allergy Hope!!!!!!

There are some in my carpool that are mildly allergic to dogs.... So today I looked online for pet allergen neutralizing shampoos & spray cleaners for the car. I remember several years ago they came out with products by Aller-something. There were in the center aisle displays in Walmart....Anyway, I found them AND got very excited. Most were for dogs & cats but I found this for HORSES

http://www.alerg.com/page/A/PROD/MF-ALR/PET3000G (works on several animals)

Which would be fantastic!!! The horse allergy has been getting progressively worse and I was considering Zyrtec or allergy shots. But the Zyrtec may interact with Ritalin. I didn't ride Vikki much last spring/summer because I would be so sleepy/groggy after seeing her. And I am really looking forward to trail riding in California so I would like to find a better solution. Hopefully the shampoo will help.
